Hourly to Salary Calculator: Turn Your Hourly Wage into Annual, Monthly and Weekly Pay
Last updated: 2026-10-18
Short answer
Enter your hourly rate, hours per week and weeks per year to see your annual gross salary and its monthly, semi-monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily equivalents. Add overtime hours and a multiplier (default 1.5 for FLSA overtime over 40 hours in a workweek) to estimate the overtime-inclusive annual figure. Choose the hours basis (2,080 standard, 2,087 OPM convention, or custom). Compare the result with any salary offer. This hourly to yearly salary tool also works as a yearly salary calculator and annual income calculator for quick gross-pay estimates.

Hourly to Salary: How It Is Calculated
The core formula converts an hourly wage into an annual gross figure using the hours basis you select:
Standard annual gross (no overtime)
Annual gross = Hourly rate × Hours per week × Weeks per year
Equivalents are derived from the unrounded annual gross:
- Monthly = Annual ÷ 12
- Semi-monthly = Annual ÷ 24
- Biweekly = Annual ÷ 26
- Weekly = Annual ÷ 52
- Daily = Annual ÷ (Days per week × Weeks per year)
With overtime
Regular weekly pay = Hourly rate × Regular hours per week
Overtime weekly pay = Hourly rate × Overtime multiplier × Overtime hours per week
Weekly gross = Regular weekly pay + Overtime weekly pay
Annual gross with overtime = Weekly gross × Weeks per year
The overtime component is shown separately. The default multiplier is 1.5, reflecting the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requirement for non-exempt employees working over 40 hours in a workweek. State rules may differ (daily overtime, double time). This calculator does not determine exemption status.
Hours-basis presets
- 2,080 hours = 40 hours/week × 52 weeks. The common private-sector convention.
- 2,087 hours = The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) divisor for federal civilian pay. Based on 2,087 average work hours per year over a 28-year cycle.
- Custom = Your entered hours per week × weeks per year.
Rounding policy: Each displayed amount is rounded half-up to the nearest cent. The annual figure is computed from unrounded components, then rounded; equivalents are derived from the unrounded annual figure.
Worked Examples
Example 1: $25/hour, 40 hrs/week, 52 weeks
- Annual gross: $52,000.00
- Monthly: $4,333.33
- Biweekly: $2,000.00
- Weekly: $1,000.00
Basis: 2,080 hours (40 × 52). No overtime. Gross before taxes.
Example 2: $22.50/hour, 37.5 hrs/week, 52 weeks
- Annual gross: $43,875.00
- Monthly: $3,656.25
- Biweekly: $1,687.50
- Weekly: $843.75
Basis: 1,950 hours (37.5 × 52). No overtime.
Example 3: $25/hour + 5 hrs overtime at 1.5×, 40 reg hrs, 52 weeks
- Regular component: $52,000.00
- Overtime component: $9,750.00
- Annual gross with overtime: $61,750.00
- Monthly: $5,145.83
Weekly: ($25 × 40) + ($25 × 1.5 × 5) = $1,187.50. Annual: $1,187.50 × 52 = $61,750.00.
Example 4: $30/hour, 40 hrs/week, 50 weeks (2 unpaid weeks)
- Annual gross: $60,000.00
- Monthly: $5,000.00
- Biweekly: $2,307.69
- Weekly: $1,200.00
Unpaid time off reduces weeks per year. Paid time off does not.

Common Mistakes and Key Conditions
- Using 2,080 hours for everyone: Part-time, variable-schedule, and federal employees may have a different hours basis. Select the correct preset or use custom.
- Confusing paid vs. unpaid time off: Paid vacation/holidays do not reduce weeks per year. Only unpaid time off reduces the weeks figure.
- Assuming 1.5× overtime applies universally: FLSA requires 1.5× for hours over 40 in a workweek for non-exempt employees. Some states require daily overtime or double time. Exempt employees are not entitled to FLSA overtime.
- Treating gross as take-home: All results are gross (before taxes and deductions). For net pay, use the Paycheck Calculator.
- Using this for legal compliance: This is an arithmetic estimator, not a pay offer or legal conclusion. Consult the U.S. Department of Labor or a qualified professional for compliance questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How much is $25 an hour per year?
- At 40 hours per week for 52 weeks (2,080 hours), $25/hour = $52,000.00 per year gross. At the OPM 2,087-hour divisor, it is $52,175.00. This is before taxes.
- How many working hours are in a year?
- The common convention is 2,080 hours (40 × 52). The U.S. Office of Personnel Management uses 2,087 hours for federal civilian pay. Your actual hours depend on your schedule and unpaid time off.
- Does unpaid time off change my annual pay?
- Yes. If you take 2 weeks unpaid, use 50 weeks instead of 52. At $25/hour and 40 hours/week, 50 weeks = $50,000.00 vs. $52,000.00 for 52 weeks. Paid time off does not reduce the weeks figure.
- Is hourly pay before taxes?
- Yes. All figures shown are gross pay before federal, state, and local taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and other deductions. For take-home pay, use the Paycheck Calculator.
- What is the FLSA overtime rule?
- The Fair Labor Standards Act requires non-exempt employees to receive at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek (29 CFR Part 778). State laws may provide greater protection (daily overtime, double time). This calculator uses 1.5 as the default multiplier; you can adjust it.
- How do I calculate annual income from an hourly wage?
- Multiply your hourly rate by your hours per week, then by your weeks worked per year. For example: $22.50 × 37.5 × 52 = $43,875.00. Use the calculator above to include overtime and unpaid weeks.
- Can I compare an hourly job to a salaried offer?
- Yes. Enter the salaried offer in the "Comparison salary" field. The calculator shows the difference per year and the equivalent hourly rate of the salary offer based on your hours basis.
